Enhance Safety Measures and Expand Amenities at Festival Park, Whitecourt

The Issue

I am writing this out of concern for the residents and visitors of Whitecourt, AB, Canada, who frequent Festival Park. Our park is in desperate need of improved safety measures and an expansion of amenities to properly cater to its users.

Festival Park has always been a cherished space in our community, but the joy of the park has been marred by the realities of overcrowding and inadequate safety provisions. Heartbreakingly, this has resulted in numerous injuries, some severe, and even deaths.

The lack of safety features is a persistent worry. A study in the British Medical Journal found that risk of incident increases in crowded spaces, largely due to inadequate safety infrastructures (BMJ, 2017). This research resonates heavily with the experiences of our residents. Many have expressed a desire to enjoy Festival Park but are deterred by fears of overcrowding and their safety. It's time for change.

Tourism, while beneficial to our town's economy, contributes to the pressure on Festival Park. Therefore, improved safety features and a bolstered park space can also accommodate the growing number of visitors. A survey in The Journal of Park and Recreation Administration suggests that expanding park amenities can efficiently manage larger crowds and increase user satisfaction (JPRA, 2019).

We urge the relevant authorities in Whitecourt to take immediate action. Enhance the safety measures in Festival Park immediately and expand its amenities. Let us restore Festival Park as a haven of enjoyment, not a space fraught with fear.

Sign this petition if you believe in a safer and more inclusive Festival Park for all.
