The Issue

Public healthcare in India has been a challenge for decades, with millions relying on under-resourced government facilities that struggle to meet the basic health needs of the population. This petition is a call to action for authorities to prioritize and reform public healthcare in India. Though it's not a personal grievance, it resonates with the national vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'—a motto that seeks development for all, without exception.

In a nation as vast and diverse as ours, equitable access to high-quality healthcare is not just a necessity but an inalienable right. Public healthcare facilities in many parts of the country remain in dire conditions. According to a National Health Profile report, India's doctor-to-patient ratio is 1:1456, far from the WHO recommended 1:1000, indicating severe understaffing in hospitals. Additionally, the lack of infrastructure and medical equipment further exacerbates this crisis.

Investments in healthcare account for just a fragment of the nation's GDP when countries such as the United States and France spend around 17% and 11%, respectively. India's public health spending stood at approximately 1.28% of its GDP in recent years. This disparity highlights the urgent need for increased funding and prioritization in national and state budgets.

By redirecting resources and implementing effective management strategies, we can drastically improve the quality of healthcare services provided to millions of Indians. Key areas of reform should include training and hiring more medical personnel, expanding healthcare infrastructure, and increasing funding for public hospitals and clinics. Furthermore, partnerships with the private sector can bridge gaps in service delivery and bring innovative solutions to public health challenges.

Sign this petition to demand immediate and substantial action from our policymakers. Together, we can work towards a future where every Indian, irrespective of their socioeconomic status, can access top-notch healthcare services. Let's make 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' a reality in the realm of public health.
