Enhance Our Local Parks with Better Equipment for Children's Safety and Wellbeing
The issue
As a resident living near two local parks in Tumut NSW, Australia, I am deeply invested in the well-being of my community, especiallyour younger generations. This story starts at the two parks right on our streets. They have generous space but very limited play equipment - only two swings in Hudson St Park, with vast empty areas. Just imagine a safe and vibrant space that could bring such joy to our children - where they could play safely.
The similar situation exists in another nearby park - Banskia Park, a lot of empty space, but no safe area for the kids to play and little play equipment. This lack of safe play spaces pose a challenge to our community, potentially leading to less outdoor activities for our children and subsequently, lesser social interactions among them.
Australia's Public Health Association reports that play is vital for children's physical and emotional development. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has also identified that nearly a quarter (23.2%, 2019) of children aged 5-14 years do not have adequate access to play spaces. Clearly, we are not the only neighbourhood facing this issue. But, let’s start the change from our own backyard.
We want the local authorities to consider renovating these parks by introducing more diverse play equipment and creating safe play areas.
This would not just improve the physical and psychological health of our children, but also strengthen community bonds.
You have a role to play in this change too. By signing this petition, you ensure that your voice and your needs are brought to the attention of the right people. Help bring about much-needed change for our community. Sign this petition today.
