Enhance Beast Boy’s Role with Full Physical Presence in the King Shark Week special

Enhance Beast Boy’s Role with Full Physical Presence in the King Shark Week special
The Issue
The recent Teen Titans Go! King Shark Week special (Season 9, Episodes 15-19: "Them Jaws," "Pool Shark," "Shark Tank," "Lakeside Story," and "Megalodon Jackson"), which premiered on July 19th, 2025 on Cartoon Network and other streaming platforms, disappointed many fans by confining Beast Boy—a major and main character just like Robin, Cyborg, Starfire, Raven, King Shark, Sofia, Berny, and Don Jackson—to mostly a voice inside King Shark, rather than giving him full physical presence and participation alongside his friends.
Despite Beast Boy’s longtime importance to the team and his equal standing with these other heroes in the original special, his portrayal was severely limited. This minimized his involvement in key story moments, activities, and team dynamics, sidelining one of the most beloved Titans and disrupting the balance the show thrives on.
Teen Titans Go! draws strength from each member of the team bringing their unique skills, humor, and heart to every adventure. Fans identify with the collective spirit and expect all core characters to share spotlight and screen time fairly.
Limiting Beast Boy’s role not only frustrates longtime fans but also weakens the narrative and the inclusive message of teamwork. Uplifting Beast Boy’s character with full physical presence will enrich storytelling, restore harmony among the Titans, honor fan passion, and reinforce the importance of fair representation in beloved children’s animation.
We respectfully urge Cartoon Network Studios, DC Studios, and Warner Bros. Animation, the creative teams, producers, directors, writers, and executives involved in Teen Titans Go!—including leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery overseeing family content—to:
- Develop a revised or hybrid version of the King Shark Week special that better showcases Beast Boy’s full physical and vocal presence throughout all episodes, with smooth transitions reflecting his inside/outside King Shark status.
- Provide a balanced episode-by-episode portrayal including:
- Episode 15: Beast Boy initially inside King Shark but with multifaceted two-way interaction mechanics allowing him to participate in key events in person if he chooses—such as singing the sea shanty ("There Goes a Shark"), shark catching, and the fourth wall moment near the episode’s end (where the Titans and King Shark look at the camera in suspense). This represents a partial physical presence while maintaining the swallowing plot device.
- Episode 16: The pre-transition phase. Beast Boy remains inside King Shark but interacts physically with the pool games (especially with coconuts as billiard balls) and the relaxation scenes (lounging poolside drinking coconut water) if he chooses, blending voice and physical involvement.
- Episode 17: The midpoint transition. Beast Boy starts physically emerging from King Shark midway or during the last 3 minutes of the episode, joining his friends to participate fully in tank life challenges (curling workouts, eating spaghetti, dodging surprises), surfing, driving semi-trucks, and battling Bane. This episode marks Beast Boy’s official physical reintegration.
- Episode 18: The post-transition phase. Beast Boy is still reintegrating from being inside King Shark, with recovery scenes, but now has full physical presence alongside Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, King Shark, Sofia, Berny, and Berny’s fish gang. He actively participates in lakeside relaxation (staring at sky and sun), playing Marco Polo, and Robin’s fish romance subplot. His position between Robin and Raven reinforces the full bird trio visually and symbolically.
- Episode 19: Beast Boy is now fully reintegrated physically and is a central character alongside the full team. They watch Don Jackson on TV, battle Carmen Conscinello (a male mollusk), and help redeem him to return Megalodon Jackson to human form. Beast Boy hosts some of the final group activities, bonds with Don Jackson, and participates in all critical moments.
- Provide a balanced episode-by-episode portrayal including:
- If revisions or rewrites to the original King Shark Week special aren't feasible, produce a sequel special focusing on Beast Boy as the main character, granting him his first fair chance to participate fully in the same key adventures and events from the original King Shark Week special (Season 9, Episodes 15-19: "Them Jaws," "Pool Shark," "Shark Tank," "Lakeside Story," and "Megalodon Jackson") without ever being swallowed or confined inside King Shark—while not diminishing other characters’ experiences. This is not a second chance for other characters, but rather a first fair chance for Beast Boy.
- Commit to future projects where all core Titans share equitable screen time and creative development as a standard practice.
This petition is addressed to:
- Cartoon Network Studios
- DC Studios
- Warner Bros. Animation
