As fed-up citizens, we can no longer tolerate the reckless speeding and incessant noise pollution that plague Sam Rittenberg "Speedway" due to the glaring lack of traffic enforcement. Our community's safety and peace of mind are at stake, and it is imperative that the Charleston Police Department (CPD), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) work together to take immediate and decisive action.

Several traffic deaths have occurred, along with dozens of accidents that threaten the safety of our neighbors. According to health experts, sounds reaching 85 decibels or higher are potentially harmful to a person's hearing. Those levels and higher levels are reached daily!  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates noise sources in the United States under the Noise Control Act of 1972 yet nothing is being done for our community.

We ask for more law enforcement officers to be positioned in medians or service roads to enforce speed limits and regular speed checks in residential sections of Sam Ritt—not just at the base of the bridge.
