As a loving and proud owner of a beautiful, gentle dog who survived horrific cruelty, I have seen firsthand the effects of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment. My sweet dog was once used as a bait dog and then recklessly abandoned along with their littermates in a cane field, left to their fate with no hope for survival. This heartbreaking reality is sadly commonplace with thousands of animals enduring such cruelty each year. There are laws, yet often there is limited enforcement, and penalties are not sufficiently stringent to act as a deterrent.

This petition calls for a significant change. There is a vital necessity to implement and enforce stricter laws that erode such cruel practices. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 1.5 million animals (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats) are euthanized each year in U.S. animal shelters alone. Furthermore, it is estimated that tens of thousands more are victims of cruel forms of abuse and neglect.
