Like so many others, I have experienced the frustration of fluctuating alcohol prices from one liquor store to another. The difference can be striking, with markups ranging from $50 to an astonishing $2000. It's high time we put an end to this.

Alcohol pricing remains largely deregulated, especially with regards to markups. This leaves an open field for vendors to charge exorbitant prices, exploiting consumers for profit. According to 2020 U.S. Market Research, the alcohol industry amassed revenue of over $250 billion (Statista, 2020). A colossal segment of this astronomical figure is due to unfairly inflated prices.

Aside from the consumer perspective, such injustices harm smaller merchants who uphold ethical pricing but struggle against competitors who manipulate prices. A standardized retail price (MSRP) for alcoholic beverages would help level the playing field and promote overall fairness for both consumers and small businesses.

Therefore, it is vital that we call upon our regulatory authorities to establish and enforce a mandatory standard retail price for every alcohol product sold at liquor stores nationwide.
