Enforce Parking Restrictions at Watermill Close for Safe and Unobstructed Access
The Issue
We, the residents of Watermill Close in Birmingham, UK, are facing a daily struggle due to the irresponsible parking habits of parents dropping off their children at the nearby Watermill Primary School. Despite having a designated car park at the top of our road, many parents choose to ignore this facility and instead park their vehicles along our residential street.
This is a danger to pupils of the local school, it restricts emergency vehicle access also.
This not only blocks us in but also leads to incidents where cars are hit or damaged, My son has Autism this also affects him when walking to or from the car as he has major anxiety with Vehicles and traffic, the amount of cars that rush down the road to a dead end in the morning / afternoon really sets his anxiety off as in his eyes and mind he see’s these cars nearly crashing as there is little to no space as seen in the picture.
What's more troubling is that these parents blatantly disregard the 'No Stopping' lines on our road effective between 8am-4pm. This lack of respect for traffic rules not only inconveniences us as residents but also poses potential safety risks for all involved - especially during peak school drop-off and pick-up times.
We understand that ensuring child safety is paramount when dropping off or picking up from school. However, this should not come at the expense of violating traffic regulations or causing inconvenience to others.
We urge our local council to take immediate action against such irresponsible behaviour by enforcing stricter adherence to parking restrictions around Watermill Primary School. By doing so, we can ensure safer roads for everyone - students, parents and residents alike.
We have since learned that there was previous talks between the school and the council to open a new entrance on Harborne Lane which has a large carpark also that is mostly empty and is near Harborne Lane Care home however the plans were rejected as there was 3 trees that would have needed to be cut down, We also ask that these plans be looked into again.
Please join us in urging our council to address this issue promptly by signing this petition today!
