When we decided to purchase land in Catherine Hill Bay over a decade ago, we did so with a promise of vibrant community amenities like shops and playgrounds. We imagined a local retail hub that was not just about convenience but also vital for creating a social heartbeat for our community. Pictures of shops and playgrounds were shown to us, models depicted a bustling local scene – all of which painted a picture of a thriving, interconnected community. A place where neighbors could meet, children could walk down to get an ice cream or a milkshake, and families could enjoy lunch together after spending time at the beach.

However, these promises remain unfulfilled, leaving our community without the social infrastructure we were assured. The lack of these amenities affects our everyday lives. It deters the connection and vibrancy that are hallmarks of any great town, crucial for maintaining the distinct coastal identity of Catherine Hill Bay.

Communities thrive when they have places to gather and connect. They become more than just a collection of houses; they turn into true neighborhoods where people can form bonds and foster a sense of belonging. The absence of the promised retail hub is a significant detriment to our community, stifling our potential to grow and prosper as a cohesive unit.

We urge the NSW Planning Minister to intervene and ensure that the original commitments made by developers are honored. It's essential for the developers to follow through on their promises for the sake of community development and the future of our neighborhood.

Enforcing these commitments would also serve as a precedent for ensuring accountability and trust in future developments across New South Wales. We deserve to see the full realization of the community we were promised over a decade ago.
