Enforce accountability for immigration officers in our state

Enforce accountability for immigration officers in our state
The Issue
As a woman, mother, and teacher, it is terrifying to think someone could kidnap you or your child off the street because ICE agents are wearing masks and failing to identify themselves. This reckless practice not only instills fear but also endangers the safety of women and children, providing an opportunity for criminals to impersonate officers and commit heinous acts.
In order to safeguard our communities and enhance trust in law enforcement, it is crucial to implement a state law requiring all immigration enforcement officers, including those from ICE, to adhere to strict identification protocols while operating within our state. These protocols must include:
1. **Clear Identification**: Officers should be mandated to identify themselves verbally and provide credentials when demanded.
2. **Visible Name and Agency**: Officers must display their name and agency prominently to avoid any ambiguity regarding their affiliation.
3. **No Masks or Face Coverings**: The use of masks or face coverings should be prohibited unless in high-risk operations that are explicitly documented and justified.
This policy is not intended to hinder the work of law enforcement but to ensure it is conducted in a manner that respects the safety and dignity of all residents. Transparency in law enforcement is fundamental to democracy, and by implementing these measures, we can restore and build public trust.
This petition urges our state legislators to act promptly and decisively to pass this law, creating a safer and more transparent environment for everyone. Support this initiative to safeguard our communities and ensure the accountability of those entrusted to protect us. Sign the petition to make a difference and promote a safer, more secure state for all citizens.
