Meath County Council has refreshed some of the road markings at this junction and committed to additional measures, including a ramp and Garda monitoring, however, it continues to refuse to replace the School Traffic Warden.
As this junction is such a high-risk area, in addition to the aforementioned commitments, we have enquired about painting the "raised tables" to make them visible and remind drivers to slow down. We've also enquired about another pedestrian crossing on the remaining arm of the junction, especially with the additional vehicle movements, pedestrians crossing and congestion expected in the vicinity of the new Community Hall.
The Board of Management, St. Mary's NS has confirmed its ongoing concern for the safety of children using the crossing. We have begun contacting other school communities across Meath where School Traffic Wardens have been removed. Early responses indicate that, in several cases, wardens were removed following retirement despite traffic lights and traffic calming measures already being in place, with no additional safety measures introduced afterwards.
We remain committed to working constructively with all relevant parties and are seeking a coordinated meeting involving Meath County Council, An Garda Síochána, the school community and local representatives to identify practical solutions before the start of the new school year 2026/27.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign to date. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
