Good Morning Supporters! Happy Thursday.
I will say now that this update is quite Unprofessional due to the urgency that I am attempting to get this out at.
11 Weeks in and 299 Signatures with no acknowledgement from the Board Of Education. Today I have an emergency, kind of rushed update due to something completely unacceptable that I witnessed this morning.
To no avail, I walked into school today hearing the same demands to put our phones in the Yondr Pouch, but something rather unexpected was happening . There were administrators everywhere, from Vice Principals to the Board Of Education, I even heard a rumor that there were administrators from other towns there as well. This was already intriguing enough, but the event I witnessed next was just straight up disrespectful. I first need to explain what happens if you don't have a phone or don't bring your phone pouch to school.
First, If you bring a phone, but no pouch, you are demanded to bring your phone to the office, where it will be held there for the day. Pretty extreme, Right?
Now, If you don't bring a phone INTO school (leave it in your, or a friend's car, or at home) as well as you don't bring your pouch, you are required to fill out a sign-in sheet, where I've been told they call home to confirm this. Remember this.
As I walked in and got my pouch out, a girl walked by me to go sign-in, to where she was asked by a teacher “Where is your phone?” The girl responds, “It's in my car.” To which now the teacher, presumably unsatisfied with this answer demands she goes to get her phone and turn it in to the school.
Now, the personal aspect of me witnessing this wants to stand up for this girl, she chooses to leave her phone somewhere where she won't have access to it anyway. (You can’t go out to a car without permission anyway, I believe they send security with you, so they'd know if you were trying to sneak out to use it, not that i'm saying anyone does this or this was her intent.)
The other, quickly angered because of someone else's actions, part of me wants to intervene. I know I should forget this happened and brush it off, but I simply can’t do that. What this teacher did was completely unacceptable, and downright disrespectful. I don't believe she had the right to do that, and I'm sure this girl was upset over this, and may have felt less safe, as most people have all this year.
So, I won't be naming this teacher publicly, but I will say that I am shocked about how serious they take this. I feel like this has gotten out of hand now, something needs to be done, what that something is, I really don't know, and I wish I did.
Have a great day, Supporters.
