The violence and discrimination against the transgender community is an epidemic that needs to be cured. The murder, rape, suicide, bullying, and unemployment rates faced by the transgender community are exponentially higher than those faced by their cisgender counterparts, and they are suffering due to a lack of understanding and a subscription to archaic bigotry. We must unite against these atrocities and demand the repeal of discriminatory bathroom laws such as HB2 in North Carolina, the passage of antidiscriminatory acts that protect against discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation, and the funding of sexual education classes that include gender identity and sexual orientation education.
