Please sign this petition and support our call for WA’s Minister for Local Government, Hon John Carey MLA, to establish an independent Local Government Ombudsman in an effort to stop toxicity, bullying and dishonesty prevalent in some WA local councils.

Local Government ( LG ) is the elected government closest to us and should be all about nurturing communities, upholding justice and decent behaviour while serving us  -  residents and ratepayers.

Unfortunately for many Western Australians that has not been their experience, in fact, quite the opposite. Many residents who have found themselves victims of their LG administrations erroneous actions, subsequently complained to State integrity bodies only then to be subjected to years of abuse and persecution by their LG administrations, complicit councillors and / or manipulative power brokers.  These victims together with those councillors and/or community representatives who have stood up in support have ended up contending with years of abuse.

Abuse that has included dead animals left at their homes, homes egged and vandalised, disgusting and threatening hate mail, trumped up attempts at MROs / VROs as well as trumped up complaints in other jurisdictions like LG Standards Panel all in an attempt to silence and prevent the truth from being revealed.

Western Australians Against Corruption in Local Government seeks your support to call out such disgusting and toxic behaviour. We are calling on the WA Government to establish an independent Local Government Ombudsman who have all the necessary powers to fully investigate complaints against Local Government administrations. This Ombudsman to be able to engage or receive input from appropriately qualified experts and communities as determined by the complexity of each complaint.
