Red light cameras have become a problematic issue for many drivers in Florida, including the undersigned. In the last two months alone, I have been charged $390 twice for traffic violations that were over a year old. This haphazard charging scheme, under the pretense of public safety, needs to be addressed.

The American Automobile Association has raised concerns about the fairness and effectiveness of these devices, pointing out the potential for mismanagement and error. A report from the University of South Florida Public Health also found that red-light cameras may lead to a higher incidence of other types of accidents.

Despite these findings, Florida has been one of the ten states with the most red light cameras in operation, showing a lack of appropriate weighing of their costs and benefits. This bears a heavy impact on everyday citizens like myself, facing unforeseen costs and unnecessary stress due to old traffic violations.
