End the Current Child Support system
End the Current Child Support system
The Issue
My life has been entwined with the child support system for over 16 years, a story that is far too familiar for countless others. Much of that time, my income, much like others who pay child support, has significantly suffered. What pains me the most, is that the children, those who should be the primary beneficiaries, often get the least. The child support received often acts as a third income for the custodial parent, and is not necessarily used for the welfare of the child. It is not unusual for the child to still rely on the non-custodial parent for what they really need. All too often, the actual needs of the children, and the financial strain on the paying parents, are overshadowed by the misuse of these funds.
This is not just a personal grudge, but a systemic failure that needs prompt reform. Statistics show that in the U.S., more than $32.9 billion in child support was due on average per year in 2013-2015, but only 68.5% of that was received in average (U.S. Census Bureau, 2016). It is not accounted for how these funds are spent in furthering the children's well-being.
It's time for a change. We the people need to make a change and stop this mis use of power and let the non custodial parents have a chance to be there more for there children and not as much at work to pay the other party. Let's make a change to stop the child support globally. Let us rise up and putt and end to this tyrany.
