The Issue

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) plays a crucial role in shaping the healthcare landscape of India by providing the country with skilled medical professionals. However, the present policy of gender-based seat allocation, which follows an 80/20 ratio favoring males, is an outdated practice that promotes inequality. It is imperative that AIIMS adopts a fair approach, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates regardless of gender.

The current quota system in the AIIMS Northern Central Entrance Test (NORCET) results in a significant disparity in the number of male and female students admitted. The 80/20 rule is not only unfair but also detrimental to the progress and empowerment of women in the medical field. Globally and locally, women have consistently shown tremendous capability and ambition in medicine and should be provided equal opportunities to pursue their dreams.

Eliminating the 80/20 rule will lead to a more balanced and diverse medical workforce, benefiting society as a whole. Equal representation matters in medicine, as diverse perspectives lead to innovative solutions and improved patient care.

We urge AIIMS to review and amend its admission policy for NORCET to ensure gender equality. By doing so, AIIMS will set a precedent, encouraging other educational institutions to follow suit and eliminate discriminatory practices in higher education.

Please sign this petition to support gender parity and the establishment of an equitable educational environment in AIIMS. Your signature can drive change and influence policies that ensure fair academic opportunity for all future medical professionals.
