End taxpayer-funded street cleaning in Berwyn, IL

End taxpayer-funded street cleaning in Berwyn, IL
The Issue
Street cleaning has become an unnecessary burden on the residents of Berwyn, IL, and it's personal for me and many others who live here. Almost every resident has experienced the constant stress caused by having to move our vehicles to accommodate the street cleaning schedules. Often, it feels as though these cleanings aren't even happening on the scheduled days, and it appears to be more about issuing parking tickets than actually cleaning the streets.
Imagine coming home at the end of a long day, yearning for rest, but instead worrying about having to get up early the next morning just to move your car to the other side of the street to avoid a parking fine. This happens way too often and disrupts our daily lives. The disruption is compounded by the financial strain of tickets that seem to serve no purpose other than to make money off of residents like me.
Street cleanings should be limited to heavy seasonal times like winter. Being funded by taxpayer money they shouldn't add to our already busy and stressful lives. It should not force us to constantly strategize about where to park or become stress over unjust fines. There's little evidence that this frequent cleaning is necessary or that it justifies the economic burden it puts on residents.
What we need is a community-first approach. The town should: 1) Reevaluate the necessity and frequency of street cleanings, adapting it to actual needs instead of a rigid schedule. 2) Implement better communication systems that clearly inform residents when street cleanings will occur, thus reducing unwarranted fines. 3) Consider alternative solutions such as community volunteer cleanup days which could foster community spirit while achieving the desired cleanliness.
We urge the Berwyn City Council and city planners to consider the real impact of these street signs for day-parking which in reality are useless in measure at the expense of residents. Let's make Berwyn a place where residents feel supported, not penalized, and help us build a community that prioritizes residents' well-being.
Sign this petition if you believe in creating a more resident-friendly street cleaning policy in Berwyn, IL. Together, we can make our voices heard and push for change that truly benefits our community.
