End Stereotyping of Ex-Felons in Housing and Employment
The Issue
Life after lock up ain't what they tell you. It's tough out here, y'all. When you walk out those prison doors, you're hit with a world that's not ready to welcome you back. I've been there, feeling sad and struggling. The challenge of reentry is real, but nobody prepares you for the cold shoulder from society, especially in housing and employment. Being labeled as an ex-felon brings stereotypes that haunt every step forward. Why should I be denied a fair chance just because of a past record?
Finding a job or a place to live shouldn't feel impossible. Yet, it is when you're judged as dangerous or unreliable without even knowing who you are today. Whether violent or nonviolent, we face barriers that others don't. This ain't just about me, it's about everyone who's trying to rebuild, to get back on track, and make a new life. It's time we challenge these stereotypes and open up real opportunities.
Imagine a world where you're seen for who you are now, not just where you've been. Where landlords and employers don't automatically turn you away because of a box checked on your application. We deserve to live without fear of being constantly denied or judged. We deserve to have a chance to prove ourselves.
So, let's make a change. Let's push for policies that prevent discrimination in housing and employment against ex-felons. Let's call on our communities across the United States to see past the record and recognize the person. Join me in demanding fairness and understanding. Sign this petition to end the stereotyping and offer every person the opportunity for a fresh start.
