End shark nets in NSW

End shark nets in NSW
The issue
A whale just died tangled in a shark net off our coast. This is not protection — it’s cruelty.
For decades, the NSW Government has continued using shark nets even though they don’t work. These nets are not barriers. Sharks can swim around them, under them, or over them. The only thing they truly stop is life itself.
Every year, these outdated nets kill countless innocent marine animals — whales, dolphins, turtles, rays, and harmless sharks — all while taxpayers foot the bill for this destruction. Studies and government data show that over 90% of what’s killed in these nets poses no threat to humans.
The government admits shark nets don’t keep swimmers safe — yet continues to waste millions maintaining them instead of using effective, non-lethal alternatives like drones, shark spotters, and smart drumlines.
This is an environmental tragedy, a misuse of public funds, and a moral failure.
We demand that the NSW Government:
1. Immediately remove all shark nets along the NSW coastline.
2. Replace them with modern, non-lethal technologies that actually protect people and marine life.
3. Redirect public funds away from killing programs and toward true ocean safety and conservation.
It’s time for change.
Protect our oceans. Protect our wildlife. Protect the truth.
End shark nets now.
