End sewage pollution in North Cornwall
The Issue
Where we live in North Cornwall, we are beyond lucky to have one of the most breathtaking stretches of coastline in the UK. The pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and stunning landscapes are treasures worth cherishing and protecting. However, this natural beauty is under dire threat. Sewage pollution is being dumped into our waters, causing environmental damage and putting the diverse marine life at risk.
As residents of this beautiful region, we are witnessing firsthand the devastating effects of this ecological neglect. South West Water, the company responsible for managing our water supplies, continues to allow untreated sewage and wastewater to be released into our seas. While their executives enjoy increasing salaries and bonuses, our environment continues to suffer. This lack of accountability is unacceptable.
The situation is becoming increasingly dire, with pollution incidents continuing even during recent heatwaves, leading to the spill of raw sewage into the sea. This negligence threatens not only the health of our waters but also our way of life, tourism, and local businesses that rely on a clean and safe environment.
We must demand that South West Water take immediate action to stop sewage pollution. We call for increased transparency and accountability, requiring them to invest into infrastructure upgrades to prevent sewage overflow and ensure proper treatment of wastewater.
Additionally, we urge government regulators to enforce stricter penalties and sanctions against companies violating environmental laws and prioritize ecological protection over profit margins. By increasing oversight and demanding improvement, we can hold these companies accountable and put an end to their environmentally harmful practices.
Our beloved coastline needs urgent protection, and it is time for action. Stand with us to fight for cleaner waters and safeguard the future of North Cornwall's natural heritage.
Please sign this petition to call on South West Water and government regulators to put an end to sewage pollution and protect our coast. Together, we can make a change.
