Dear supporters
Four horses forced to perform in saddle bronc events were involved in serious incidents over the Easter and Anzac Day weekend. It seems at least one of them was killed.
- At Sydney's Royal Easter Show rodeo on 21 April, a horse appeared to break its leg, and apparently died.
- Another incident at the Easter Show rodeo appeared to have left both a rider and a horse injured.
- At the Singleton Rodeo on 26 April, a horse in the chute apparently broke its neck or back.
- At the Finley Rodeo on Easter Sunday, there was a serious horse fall or collapse.
We can't say for sure what happened with any of these incidents because rodeo operators are not required to tell the public about the harm they cause to animals. This situation is yet another outrageous protection given by the law to a cruel business based on exploitation of animals for nothing but human entertainment.
I would like to thank you all for signing my End Rodeo Cruelty petition, which I have forwarded, with a covering email, to the responsible Minister, New South Wales Agriculture Minister, the Hon. Tara Moriarty MLC.
Ms Moriarty did not have the courtesy to respond, even though more than 13,000 kind and thinking people such as you signed the petition. Instead, she renewed in Parliament the exemption from animal cruelty legislation for rodeo operators.
That is why I have begun a new petition, calling out the lack of transparency which allows rodeo operators to kill and maim animals with no accountability.
I hope you will help me continue the fight against this cruel, outdated and unnecessary treatment of horses and cattle, by signing my new petition. The link is here:

Please also contact NSW Premier Chris Minns on (02) 7225 6000 or Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty on (02) 7225 6120 or email tara.moriarty@parliament.nsw.gov.au and demand an inquiry into rodeos and the protections from scrutiny given to them.
Thank you again for your support.
