End PR Exploitation in Marriages

The issue

I married a man who was on a student visa. He pretended to love me immensely, only to play with my emotions and leave me after obtaining his Permanent Residency (PR). This is not just my story; it's a reality many face. People entering into marriages with the sole intention of using their partners to gain permanent residency is a deceptive practice that needs immediate attention and action.

Countless individuals have fallen victim to partners who feign affection, only to abandon them once they have secured their residency status. This manipulative behavior undermines the integrity of our immigration processes and causes immense emotional and financial damage to innocent partners who entered into these relationships in good faith.

It's imperative that our immigration policies reflect the seriousness of such deceit. The Australian immigration authorities need to put measures in place where victims can report these abuses, and where the residency status of individuals who exploit their partners in such a manner can be reviewed and potentially revoked.

Concrete action should include setting up a dedicated hotline for victims, providing support services for those affected, and establishing a clear legal framework to investigate such claims thoroughly. Moreover, educational programs highlighting the consequences of using relationships as pathways to residency can serve as a deterrent for future abusers.

Counselling for Sponsors

Citizens who want to sponsor a spouse must attend counselling.
This helps them understand their responsibilities and avoid future problems.
5-Year Bridging Visa Before PR

Instead of giving Permanent Residency (PR) right away, give sponsored spouses a 5-year bridging visa.
After 5 years, if the relationship is still genuine, they can get Temporary Residency (TR).
If the relationship ends during this time (unless there’s abuse or a serious reason), the visa will be cancelled.

To maintain the integrity of Australia's immigration system and to protect the rights and dignity of genuine partners, please join me in urging our government to take decisive action against residency exploitation within marriages. Sign this petition to demand change and prevent further emotional and personal harm to innocents like me.
