END PIGEON POACHING in NYC, Once and For All!
The Issue
For the last two decades at least, pigeon poaching had been a very real endemic across NYC, targeting feral flocks and leaving a wake of devastation and suffering behind.
We already know who the men doing this are; Dwayne Daley, who has been arrested multiple times but never charged, and Michael Scott, the owner of the Bushwick store Broadway Pigeons, which is considered to be a hub for the poachers, and where the victims are kept before being transported to their fate.
The pigeons are often sold to gun clubs in Pennsylvania, where they are cruelly shot, used as live shooting targets. Not only is this wildly inhumane, it's illegal and NYC law prohibits the trapping of pigeons in this manner and for this or any reason unrelated to rescuing them.
§11-0513 subsection 2 of the NYS DEC states trapping pigeons is illegal without a specific permit
311 confirms that illegal pigeon netting is considered animal abuse and should be reported as an ongoing crime to 911
Activists have protested this sick practice, but the NYPD and DA refuse to act. Please sign and share this petition to help us bring awareness to this issue, as well as to gain support for the most vulnerable animals who need our help. Pigeons are New Yorkers too, but they have no protections under federal laws (sound familiar?) and are being unfairly targeted and discriminated against.
Our goal is to bring this information to the Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, and the newly appointed Animal Welfare commission, to implore them to finally take action against these atrocities and uphold the law to protect the pigeons. Activists have a plan that can be implemented to benefit not just the pigeons, but all New Yorkers, and to mitigate the harm and suffering caused by poachers, as well as other hardships faced by pigeons. They do not deserve be killed or exploited just for trying to survive. Please help us help the pigeons!
