End Period Poverty in India

End Period Poverty in India
The Issue
Menstrual health is not a privilege. It's a right.
Periods are not a choice, they are a biological reality. Yet every month, millions of menstruators are forced to choose between buying pads or meeting other basic needs. This is not only unjust but inhumane.
A recent survey by NGO Chetna in West and North-West Delhi slums found that 59% of women struggle to afford menstrual products, and 57% compromise on essentials such as food or education to purchase pads.
Opportunity International Australia reports that 42 million people explicitly cannot afford menstrual products
We demand the Government of India, in partnership with the state governments and public health bodies to take urgent action and:
1. Cap the retail price of sanitary pads at ₹2 per pad to ensure affordability and accessibility (₹14 for a standard pack of 7)
2. Introduce subsidised or free sanitary kits especially to families below poverty line, school girls and rural communities, available through ration shops, Jan Aushadi Kendras and public health clinics
3. Launch mass awareness campaigns to educate, destigmatize, and normalize menstruation.
Let's End Period Poverty Now!!
