The Issue

My soul dog, Joy, was my shadow, and we shared an incredible bond. Tragically, she passed away from hemangiosarcoma, a cancer, at just 8 years old. Her passing left a hole in my heart. Just a day later, my neighbor’s dog succumbed to the same cancer, and the pattern continued with another neighbor losing their beloved pet shortly after. In our small neighborhood of just 25 houses, five dogs recently passed away from hemangiosarcoma. The only common link we could discern was the mosquito control spraying occurring in our area.

This prompted us to reach out on Facebook, and we discovered an alarming pattern – many families in the Savannah area were grieving the loss of pets to the same cruel disease. It has become evident that this issue is widespread and can't be ignored. The connection between these tragic pet deaths and the mosquito control spraying is hard to overlook.

Naled breaks down into DDVP, a substance that is classified as a potential human carcinogen. It is harmful to humans, pets, and wildlife and is linked as a potential cause of autism. Even more, it decimates natural predators of mosquitoes such as bats and birds, disrupting our ecosystem.

Mosquito-borne diseases are a serious concern, but using naled isn't the only or the safest answer. Alternatively, natural predators manage mosquito populations without risking harm to our pets and loved ones.

Research confirms the dangers of DDVP. In areas where naled spraying exists, the loss of natural predators and increased identification of autism cases highlight the potential damage of these actions.

It’s imperative to reconsider the mosquito control strategies in Savannah, GA, to protect our cherished pets, safeguard our health, and maintain the ecological balance. Enforcing stricter guidelines against mosquito sprays, protecting our families, and raising public awareness is critical right now.

By signing this petition, your voice can advocate for a healthier Savannah that protects our community's health and well-being. Help us stop the use of mosquito spraying in Savannah, GA. Please sign and share this petition with friends, family, and animal lovers who understand the value of life.
