End MLB's Local Blackout Rule

End MLB's Local Blackout Rule

The Issue

It's time to end MLB's antiquated "local" blackout rule which, for example blacks out Tampa Bay Rays games in the Jacksonville, Florida Market, which is 220 miles away. The rule is not only bad for fans, its bad for the sport. The MLB has struggled to attract young fans for decades and this rule prevents people utilizing streaming services, many of which are younger, from being able to watch their favorite team online. This rule could easily be changed, or the MLB's hand could be forced through modification of its antitrust exemption.
