Imagine having to wear leggings or tights (with tight spandex)  under your skirt  every single day, regardless of the temperature or your personal comfort. That's the reality for girls at our school here at wood.  Our school administration has enforced a policy requiring all female students to wear leggings or tights under our uniform all year round, claiming it's for a more professional appearance. However, this mandate poses several issues of discomfort and inequity that need to be addressed immediately. Why change a dress code policy after the one in place has worked for many years. 

Wearing leggings or tights in warmer months is not only uncomfortable but can also be detrimental to our health. Girls  have experienced heat rashes, and other women issues. This policy does not take into account the diverse needs and comfort levels of all students. Not to mention the level of heat we have experienced this year has reached extreme temperatures.

Moreover, this dress code discriminates against female students, while boys are not subjected to equivalent restrictions. This raises questions about gender equity and the fairness of policies that affect one group disproportionately. In light of children's rights to learn and play freely without unnecessary discomfort, our school's current dress code needs a review and revision to ensure fairness for all students.

We propose that the school adopts a more flexible dress code policy that respects individual choice while maintaining a sense of school unity and professionalism. Allowing students to wear knee-length skirts with socks during the hotter days, like in all the previous years. provides alternatives that are both professional and comfortable.
