

This year's Ban Live Exports: International Awareness Day falls within the consultation period of the World Organisation for Animal Health’s (WOAH) revision of its global standards on long-distance transit of live animals and is an opportunity for people to sign the open letter to the WOAH calling for an end to the cruel and unnecessary live export trade and for improvements to the existing standards until the global trade ends including that a veterinarian should be present and accompanying the animals, on all sea journeys over three days.

· Contact the Australian Minister for Agriculture, the Hon Julie Collins MP.
Email: Minister.Collins@aff.gov.au urging the Australian government to follow the UK and end all live animal exports for fattening or slaughter and until the trade ceases ensure that an Australian Accredited Veterinarian (AAV) is on board all live export voyages, regardless of the distance or duration and that no animals are shipped to or through conflict zones.
