Petition updateEnd live export from TownsvilleSheep at risk of being exported into a conflict zone from Fremantle Port
TALE Townsville Against Live Export
Mar 2, 2026

No animals from Townsville are exported to the Middle East, but both cattle and sheep are exported by sea from Fremantle to the Middle East. Around 55,000 to 60,000 sheep are currently sitting in the Peel pre-export feedlot, south of Fremantle waiting to be exported on the Al Kuwait.  We hope the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) aren't thinking of sending any animals into a warzone.  Please send an email to the Agriculture Minister, Julie Collins, email Minister.Collins@aff.gov.au asking that ALL live animal exports to this region be suspended immediately.  E.g.   ‘In the light of the current crisis in the Middle East, please suspend all live export shipments headed to Middle Eastern ports. The Al Kuwait is docked in Fremantle, WA, awaiting loading with thousands of sheep. Please stop this vessel and any others from sailing into a conflict zone and becoming the next huge live export tragedy.'

Port of Townsville Update: In December 2025, two cattle ships, the Jawan and the Balha One took 10,263 animals from Townsville to Indonesia, bringing the total number of cattle exported from our port in 2025 to 78,856, 49% less than in 2024.  58,925 of these animals were exported to Indonesia and 19,931 to Vietnam. The cruelty is expected to resume later this week, when the first ship to load cattle for export from Townsville in 2026, the Brahman Express is due in port.  Photo showing the Al Kuwait berthed in Fremantle supplied by friends in WA.
