Saturday, 14 June, 2025 is Ban Live Exports International Awareness Day, a Global Day of Action, when people from all over the world come together to speak out against the live animal export trade and remind the world that animals are not cargo. Events will be taking place across the globe from England and Ireland to Australia and Ecuador, including port gatherings, cinema screenings, marches to parliaments and in Townsville a market stall on Sunday. If you can't get to an event in person, please take action online by sharing a selfie holding a sign saying why you want ALL live exports to end (include the hashtag #BanLive Exports), sending a polite message to the Australian Prime Minister urging him to act to end ALL live animal exports from Australia https://www.pm.gov.au/contact and encouraging your friends to do the same. New Zealand ended all live exports by sea in 2023, Great Britain introduced a ban on live exports for fattening and slaughter in 2024, European countries including Germany and Luxembourg have introduced legislation limiting exports from their countries beyond the EU. Sadly, Australia continues to be part of this cruel trade. Legislation was passed last year to end live sheep exports by sea by May 2028, but the government has no plans to end the export of buffalo, cattle, and goats for slaughter offshore. ALL animals suffer when exported live for slaughter offshore and it is time for Australia to end the cruelty for ALL animals. #BanLiveExports
