Poverty isn’t neglect

Poverty isn't neglect.

But the problem is, families who are struggling for just one month are terrified to reach out for help. They are terrified because CPS is known to take children away for poverty, or for other problems that could be fixed with a little funding.

A mom who needs help with rent for one month. A dad whose power bill is late. A family whose fridge is empty for a week. Instead of getting help, they stay silent because they are scared that asking for help means losing their kids.

That fear is destroying families.

If a family is struggling, help them. Don't take their children. Give them groceries. Pay the rent. Keep the power on. Give them what they need to get through that hard month.

Instead of taking kids away, supply families with what they need to take care of our future generations. 

They will pay foster parents to raise someone else's children, but they won't help the parents pay for the necessities to keep their own children at home.

Families should be able to ask for help without being afraid they will be punished for it.
