My journey in the world of employment has been fraught with instability. Working for multiple companies that rely on labour brokers, I have consistently experienced a lack of job security despite delivering results and maintaining punctuality over the course of more than six months with each employer. Despite such dedication, I was never offered permanent contracts. This is a stark testimony to a widespread issue in South Africa– the exploitation and insecurity fostered by the use of labour brokers. These bodies do not provide sustainable job stability, often exploiting workers who are uninformed about their rights. Furthermore, the precarious nature of this employment renders any application for finance or credit exceedingly difficult, as labour broker employment is deemed unstable, regardless of the consistency of the income. The mission of this petition is to abolish the use of labour brokers in our country to ensure better job security and the protection of workers. Now more than ever, protection of rights and job security should be a primary focus in our fight for fair employment practices and economic stability.
