The tragic rise of knife crime across the UK, and particularly in Southend-on-Sea, cannot be ignored. It's a harsh reality that we need to face and collectively address. In fact, in 2019, the UK saw over 45,000 knife crime offences, the highest number since comparable records began in 2011 (Source: Office for National Statistics).

Southend-on-Sea is not an exception. We cannot stand by while our community members, particularly our youth, are swept into this deadly wave of violence, afraid for their lives in the places they should feel most secure. This is a call to the local government of Southend-on-Sea, urging immediate, meaningful action to put effective preventive measures in place, provide adequate support for troubled youth, and boost police visibility and intervention around identified hotspots.
