The Issue

The story of these horses is not a pleasant one. Suffering doesn't begin at the slaughterhouse; it starts much earlier at the auction house. Eventually horses end up at a kill pen where they are subjectively abused and neglected. During transport. Horses, along with other equines, are loaded into overcrowded trailers, deprived of necessities like food, water, or rest during arduous journeys of over 24 hours. Upon arrival at the slaughterhouse, their maltreatment continues. It's deeply distressing to know that horses may be fully conscious at the onset of the slaughtering process, a procedure that entails being hung by a hind leg, their throats slit, and bodies butchered. The agonizing and protracted death these noble animals meet is the final, unbearable betrayal.

To prevent such suffering, we must appeal for strict laws prohibiting the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption. This is not just a fight against unregulated slaughterhouses but a challenge to the system that allows such cruelty to persist.

According to a survey by the American Horse Council, about 7.2 million horses are in the United States. This makes the need to protect them even more crucial. Action is required not only on humanitarian grounds but also in consideration of their significant contributions to our society and culture. We urge lawmakers to take swift action against this practice. Let's stand together for equine rights and welfare. Please sign this petition today and help us end this hidden horror of horse slaughter.
