The Issue

Homelessness in Los Angeles has reached a crisis point. According to the 2022 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, there are nearly 66,000 people experiencing homelessness in LA County, with the majority residing in the city of Los Angeles. This represents a significant increase compared to previous years, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive solutions.

The lack of affordable housing, coupled with economic challenges exacerbated by the pandemic, has forced many individuals and families into homelessness. The reality is even more dire for marginalized communities, including veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people of color, who are disproportionately affected by these challenges.

Addressing homelessness in Los Angeles requires a multi-faceted approach that includes increasing the supply of affordable housing, expanding services for mental health and substance abuse treatment, and improving access to job training and employment opportunities. Additionally, more funding must be allocated toward supportive housing and emergency shelters to provide immediate relief to those on the streets.

City officials and legislature must prioritize these initiatives to prevent further escalation of the crisis. We urge the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor’s Office to allocate resources and implement policies that address the root causes of homelessness while ensuring the dignity and safety of all residents.

We cannot stand by while tens of thousands of Angelenos have no place to call home. It is time to act decisively and compassionately to end homelessness in Los Angeles. Please sign this petition to support real and lasting change for our unhoused neighbors.
