You may have seen that multiple media outlets reported that the government is set to ban gambling-based shirt sponsorship in the Premier League.
This is really welcome, but to remove gambling ads from shirts while allowing pitch-side advertising, league sponsorship, and club partnerships to continue would be a massively incoherent policy.
Every young fan should be able to watch their club - in the ground and on TV - without being bombarded by ads for gambling, which we know harms millions, and takes hundreds of lives every year.
As this step suggests, if the government now recognises that gambling ads can be harmful, then it must end all gambling advertising and sponsorship in football at all levels, not just on shirts.
We need your help to achieve this. You can do so by:
- Lobby your MP to end all gambling ads in football using this easy-to-use template
- Emailing/writing to your football club telling them to reject gambling partnerships
- Continuing to share this petition
- Visit www.the-bigstep.com to find out how you can get involved with our campaigning events.
Let's kick gambling ads out of football.
