The Issue

Fly-tipping and illegal dumping are out of control across Stevenage. Parks, woodlands, underpasses, walkways, cycleways, and green spaces are being used as dumping grounds. Residents are fed up and calling for action.

Stevenage Deserves Better Stevenage was Britain's first New Town, built in 1946 with community and pride at its heart. Today, that vision is being undermined by persistent fly-tipping despite years of reporting.

From everyday household waste to larger items like furniture, mattresses, plastics, white goods, tyres, and construction waste, rubbish is being dumped regularly. Waste is cleared, only to return within days. This is a criminal offense, a health risk, and creates a sense of neglect in a town that deserves far better.

What We Are Asking Stevenage Borough Council To Do

  • Install CCTV /  Mobile CCTV in known hotspots
  • Increase warden patrols and enforcement
  • Put up clear No Fly-Tipping signs with penalty warnings
  • Remove waste faster and more consistently
  • Promote the Stevenage Recycling Centre
  • Increase awareness of recycling services across the town
  • Organise community awareness events to discourage fly-tipping
  • Strengthen neighborhood watch schemes
  • Publish annual enforcement data
