End Fine Dining Subsidies for MPs: No Food in the House

End Fine Dining Subsidies for MPs: No Food in the House
The Issue
#NOFOODINTHEHOUSE
North Paddington Foodbank (NPFB) Launches Campaign to End Subsidised Dining for MPs and Address Rising Poverty in the UK.
In collaboration with renowned British artist Corbin Shaw, NPFB is launching ‘No Food in The House’ a campaign to redirect funds from subsidised dining for MPs to combating poverty and food insecurity.
As Westminster’s largest food aid charity, NPFB supports over 8,000 households annually, highlighting the stark disparity in our society. Last year, over 3 million people in the UK relied on foodbanks, now outnumbering McDonald's restaurants.
Despite this, the House of Commons Catering Services spends millions on subsidised catering for MPs, with all 17 bars and eateries losing around £7 million last year. While politicians enjoy three-course meals for as little as £10.41, the public subsidises luxury dishes like "Panko coated lamb loin with carrot and Timothy Taylor Ale purée, black garlic, potato galette, and natural jus."
This misuse of public funds is especially unsavoury given the growing food insecurity, and politicians have been branded “out of touch” for their response to the Cost-of-Living Crisis, with comments suggesting poor people “cannot cook properly” and “cannot budget.” Meanwhile, MPs enjoy restaurant-quality meals on the cheap, thanks to public subsidies.
To spotlight this issue, Corbin Shaw’s artworks will be displayed on billboards nationwide, urging the public to support reallocating funds.
Our campaign advocates for prioritising public funds towards essential community services, which could significantly reduce hunger and poverty.
