Give Prestwich Peace Back: Stop Large Music Festivals at Heaton Park

Heaton Park is one of the largest municipal parks in Europe. It is a treasured public space used by families, walkers, cyclists, runners, children, wildlife enthusiasts and local communities throughout Greater Manchester.

Yet year after year, this incredible public park is transformed into a venue for massive commercial music festivals and events that bring excessive noise, traffic congestion, overcrowding, litter and disruption to residents across Prestwich, Whitefield, Middleton, Blackley and surrounding areas.

Residents should not have to plan their lives around festivals. Families should not have to endure booming music for hours on end. Elderly residents should not have their peace disturbed in their own homes. Shift workers should not lose valuable rest before work because of noise that can be heard far beyond the park itself.

This is not simply about one event. Throughout the summer, multiple large-scale music and entertainment events take place, creating repeated disruption and reducing access to a public park that belongs to everyone.

Heaton Park was created for the benefit of the public, not to become a recurring festival venue that places the interests of commercial organisers above the wellbeing of local communities.

We are calling on Manchester City Council and relevant authorities to:

• Stop approving large-scale music festivals at Heaton Park.

• Protect residents from excessive noise pollution.

• Keep one of Europe's largest municipal parks accessible to the public.

• Prioritise local communities over commercial interests.

• Find more suitable locations for large-scale festivals away from residential areas.
