End extreme sentencing for non-violent drug offenses — Texans deserve second chances

The Issue

Texas currently punishes many non violent drug-related offenses as first-degree felonies — the same level as murder and aggravated kidnapping, with a sentence of up to 99 years of incarceration. This outdated law destroys lives, breaks families apart, and fills our prisons with non-violent offenders who need help, not lifelong punishment.

We’re calling on the Texas Legislature to reduce the offense level for possession and distribution (man/del) of controlled substances to a lower felony and reduce the maximum sentencing guidelines significantly.

Texans deserve fair and proportional sentencing, not decades in prison for small amounts of a controlled substance or addiction-related offenses. Reform would save taxpayers millions, reduce overcrowding, and give people a real chance to rebuild their lives through treatment and rehabilitation, not endless incarceration.

It’s time for smart justice — justice that heals, not harms.

Sign this petition to urge Texas lawmakers:

Reduce the penalty for man/del of controlled substances and bring fairness, compassion, and common sense back to our laws.
