Friend, Not Food: End Dog Slaughter in Namibia
The Issue
End Dog Slaughter in Namibia

We, the undersigned, come together to advocate for the protection of animals and to put an end to the cruel and unnecessary practice of dog slaughter in Namibia. We believe that animals are a sui generis type of property and deserve legal recognition and protection based on their inherent rights.
Case Study: Dalton's Tragic Fate
Dalton, an 8-year-old Weimaraner, was a beloved family pet known for his kind, lovable, and friendly nature. On June 8, 2023, Dalton was stolen from his family's yard, plunging them into anguish and prompting an exhaustive search. Despite their tireless efforts, Dalton's family made a horrifying discovery - people consuming the dismembered remains of their dear pet, with his boiled head displayed nearby. This cruel act, known as dog eating, is a practice involving the brutal killing of dogs, often by bludgeoning, for consumption.
Opposing Dog Slaughter and Promoting Animal Welfare
We firmly assert that our opposition to dog slaughter is not a matter of cultural beliefs, but rather a question of ethics and morality that transcends culture and tribe. Dogs are sentient beings, valued as pets, friends, and cherished family members. They provide us with love, loyalty, and companionship, and it is our responsibility to protect their well-being.
Recognizing Animals' Right to Life and Welfare
We call for the declaration that animals, including dogs, deserve legal protection and rights based on their unique status as sentient beings. We propose that the legal recognition of the inherent rights of animals should be limited to ensuring their welfare and well-being in their treatment by humans.
Justice for Dalton and All Animals
Dalton's tragic story serves as a poignant reminder of the countless dogs who suffer similar fates in Namibia. By raising awareness through his story, we aim to inspire compassion and ignite conversations about the ethical treatment of animals. We believe that every dog's life is valuable and that it is our collective responsibility to protect them from cruelty.

By signing this petition, we lend our voices to the call for change. We urge the Namibian government, lawmakers, and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action to protect animal rights, condemn dog slaughter, and enforce stricter measures against animal cruelty.
