I, like many others, am currently facing a cost of living crisis. In these challenging times, every individual should have the freedom to choose and be treated equally, regardless of whether we have or want a smart meter installed. However, this is not the case for me and countless others who are unable to secure certain fixed deals for cheaper tariffs due to our lack of smart meters or not wishing to have one.

This discriminatory practice by energy providers is unjust and unfair. It's estimated that around 16 million homes in the UK still don't have smart meters (source: Energy Saving Trust). This means millions of us are potentially being denied access to more affordable energy tariffs.

Smart meters can provide benefits such as real-time information about energy usage. However, they should not be a prerequisite for fair treatment from our energy providers. The choice to install one should be ours alone without fear of financial penalty.

I like many others have no issues with smart meters but having recently just moved home it's not a priority for myself at present but I do not think it's fair I shouldn't be offered the same competition rates.

We call on all energy providers and regulatory bodies to end this discriminatory practice immediately. Everyone deserves equal access to affordable energy options irrespective of their choice regarding smart meter installation.
