The Issue

My husband, Jimmy Moore, is an honorable man who served in the Army for 23 years before being medically discharged with a 100% service-connected disability. He has dedicated his life to protecting our country, and now it's time for us to protect him.

We are residents of the HOA Villages of Fireside in Middleburg, FL. My husband struggles to walk and relies on an electric wheelchair and a handicapped vehicle for mobility. In order to ensure his safety during emergencies such as fires, we applied for a second emergency driveway that would provide him direct access to the street from our house.

However, despite providing all necessary documentation and following the proper procedures, our request was denied by the HOA ARC Committee with prejudice. This denial not only discriminates against my husband's disability but also puts his life at risk in case of fire or other emergencies.

The HOA is now suing us for installing this much-needed second emergency driveway without their approval. Instead of understanding our situation and working towards a solution that prioritizes safety and accessibility, they have chosen to harass us with petty legal actions aimed at burying us in paperwork.

This petition aims to bring attention to the discriminatory practices within the HOA Villages of Fireside and demand change on behalf of all disabled veterans who face similar challenges within their communities.

Our personal story is just one example among many where disabled individuals are denied basic accommodations that ensure their safety and well-being. It is disheartening that after dedicating years of service defending our nation's values, my husband now faces discrimination within his own community.

We call upon all compassionate individuals who believe in equality and justice to support this petition demanding fair treatment for disabled veterans like Jimmy Moore:

1. We urge the HOA Villages of Fireside Board Members to reconsider their decision regarding the second emergency driveway and grant approval without prejudice. Safety and accessibility should be prioritized over bureaucratic red tape.

2. We demand that the HOA Villages of Fireside cease their harassment through petty legal actions against my husband and instead engage in open dialogue to find a solution that meets both our needs and complies with relevant regulations.

3. We request that the HOA Villages of Fireside implement a comprehensive review of their policies to ensure they are inclusive, fair, and compliant with disability rights laws. This review should involve input from disabled residents, experts in accessibility, and legal professionals familiar with disability discrimination cases.

By signing this petition, you stand up against discrimination towards disabled veterans like Jimmy Moore within our community. Together, let's create change and ensure equal rights for all residents of HOA Villages of Fireside.
