Our mum, Helen Sargent, tragically passed away at the Royal Adelaide Hospital after being left in a corridor.

She had no emergency buzzer and no access to suction or resuscitation equipment.

This happened in October 2025, and almost 12 months later, South Australian patients are still being treated in corridors.

In August 2026, a 92-year-old grandmother was reportedly placed in a corridor of the Lyell McEwin Hospital after a suspected stroke. Her granddaughter said this meant she was initially unable to be by her bedside.

Recently, when Health Minister Blair Boyer was asked by a journalist if corridor care is an accepted practice, he said “yes”.

A few weeks later, Mr Boyer was given responsibility for organising the MotoGP racing event, despite his busy portfolio.

As Helen Sargent’s family, we urge Mr Boyer to leave motorsport to others and focus on fixing our health system.

We are haunted by the fact that in mum’s final hours, she was denied the privacy, dignity she deserved.

This devastating experience compelled us to start this petition.

We are calling for the State Government to take immediate action to end the practice of ‘corridor care’.

We also ask the Government to fix the ramping crisis, as it promised before the 2022 State Election.
