End Condo Construction in Asbury Park!

The Issue

As a long-time resident of Asbury Park, New Jersey, I have seen this vibrant community bloom with unique character and charm. The eclectic mix of old attractions and new businesses, the wonderful beaches, and the warmth of the community embody the spirit of this town. However, there is a growing concern threatening to overshadow our treasured environment: the ongoing construction of condo structures.

The rise in condo developments in Asbury Park is not only changing the physical landscape but is also creating an economic divide that could make living here unaffordable for many of its current residents. Property values are skyrocketing, driving up rents and making it challenging for families, artists, and small business owners who have been here for decades to remain in the area. This transformation could turn Asbury Park into another expensive cityscape, losing its historical and cultural essence.

According to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the average property value in Asbury Park has increased by nearly 20% over the last five years. If this trend continues, many current residents will no longer be able to afford to live in their own neighborhood. The rich diversity that we've cultivated over the years is at stake if we don't act now to restrict more condo developments.

We propose that the local city council and planning board implement measures to halt any further condo constructions and invest in affordable housing projects. Through strategic zoning regulations and housing policies, we can preserve the unique character and affordability of Asbury Park for all its residents, not just those who can afford luxury condos.

Let’s not allow Asbury Park to lose its soul to the allure of concrete jungles and soaring prices. It’s time to take a stand to protect our community's future. Please sign this petition to urge our city leaders to prioritize sustainable development that benefits all current and future residents of Asbury Park.
