End Child Labour in Our Nation Today

End Child Labour in Our Nation Today
The Issue
There are personal stories that shake us, pricking our conscience and reminding us that we live in an imperfect society. One such story is that of a young girl who was merely 13 years old, toiling in my home as a housemaid. Instead of enjoying the joys of childhood and the privilege of education, she was burdened with household responsibilities, performing chores and cooking for minimal wages. Her reality was far removed from that of a typical teenager. This narrative is symbolic of a broader societal issue – rampant child labour in our country.
As per the International Labour Organization (ILO), our nation has one of the highest rates of child labour, with an estimated 1 in 10 children involved in labour that hampers their development. This is not a problem of a few families or a select group of children. It is a national crisis affecting millions of children, depriving them of a safe childhood and a future full of potential.
Child labour is not just a humanitarian issue; it is a social problem, a violation of fundamental human rights. It prevents children from acquiring the skills and education they need for a better future, perpetuating the cycle of poverty and social inequality. It's high time we confront this issue head-on and invoke a call to action.
Collectively, We as individuals should definitely play our role to help end child labour be it as small as signing this petition.
Let that young girl’s story not be the norm but a reminder of the urgency to act. Stand with us in demanding an end to child labour. Lend your voice to our innocent and vulnerable children. They don't just need us; they deserve us. Please sign this petition and move us a step closer to a child labour-free nation.
