End Censorship on Call of Duty

The Issue

I am speaking from personal experience as a dedicated user who, like millions of others, enjoys the strategic game of Call of Duty (COD). True, the game is rated 'M' for Mature by Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), signifying that the content is generally suitable for ages 17 and up. It is a game designed for adult players, with the understanding that adult language may be used during gameplay. Yet, paradoxically, we see punitive measures imposed for using adult language on this adult game. Consequently, the punitive measures, designed to censor swearing and adult language, ironically detract from the enjoyment of the gameplay, making the game unnecessarily difficult for its mature-rated audience.

This in-game censorship seems to miss the point of the game's age rating and the general understanding of mature content. The competitive "shit talk" that occurs within the gameplay for many of us is a significant part of the experience and adds a level of interactive flavor that resonates with our mature gamer's spirit.

It is crucial to remember that freedom of expression plays a significant role in games where interactions occur in real-time and players are fully immersed in the storyline and the real-time decision-making process. The proposed censorship can dampen the spirit of interactions, making the game less enjoyable than it should be.

As a mature-rated gaming community, we must unite against the proposed censorship on COD. Today, I stand before you as both a fellow gamer and a petitioner, urging each one of you to stand by me in voicing out our concerns. Let us work together and sign this petition to end censorship on Call of Duty and continue enjoying the gameplay in its true spirit so that our gaming experience reflects the game's intended maturity level.
