End Bing Bells!!!!

The Issue

Every day, every hour, and once randomly at 3:42, classes and conversations alike are interrupted by irritating and unrealistic chimes. These chimes serve no purpose, other than to distract us from what truly matters in Binghamton, our academics and our relationships.

Bells are outdated a holdover from our white colonial Christian past. We have the opportunity to move Binghamton to the modern age, where we carry cellphones and watches to tell time, we can end the Bells!

Beyond the cultural toxins, the bells are the largest contributor to noise pollution on campus. Noise pollution is disruptive to the environment and our health. According to National Geographic noise pollution can cause hearing loss, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep disturbances, and stress. Noise pollution has also been shown to harm bugs and birds' health. Why are we sacrificing our nature preserve and our own health?

Binghamton University is in a time of flux, a time when we can change and improve. Harvey Stinger is stepping away and a new president yet to be named is taking his esteemed place. With your help, we can make a change, a change that will help all students at Binghamton University and restore our pristine silence.
