End Age Discrimination in Nursery Admissions Based on Birth Month

The Issue

Did you know that each year 3 year olds, nurseries and parents lose 133,915 years worth of funding affecting toddler development, parental opportunities and productivity.

Speaking from the painful personal experience of having my child's education delayed due to an unjust nursery admission system in the UK, I am urging a revision of this practice. Just because my child was born at the start of September, they are denied the same opportunity as their peers born days earlier at the end of August. An unfair situation where children can lose up to three months of essential early learning and play merely due to their birth date. It doesn't stop at my child. According to the UK's Department of Education statistics, a considerable percentage of children face this educational setback every year. Unlike in primary and secondary schools, nurseries do not adhere to rigid academic calendars. Hence the birth month shouldn't dictate a child's admission eligibility. This policy seems to be more about economic convenience rather than looking out for children's best interests. Early childhood development plays a key role in shaping a child's future, and all children should have the same opportunity once they reach age 3, regardless of their birth month. It's time to rethink nursery admissions and make it fair for all. Please sign the petition to help end this unfair practice.
